We believe it was commissioned / possibly designed by Peter and Alison Smithson as part of the furniture for Smithdon school in 1949. The school won awards for its brutalist design in 1954. This was recently salvaged from Smithdon school science lab in Hunstanton, Norfolk where it was being used until very recently.
